The subsidy nobody mentions
Ontario's Rate Reduction Program turns on one number: line 23600 of a tax return. Assets are not counted. A house, savings, investments. None of it changes anything.
But it covers basic accommodation only. Choose a nicer room and you're disqualified outright. Families make that choice at admission, in the worst week of their lives, usually without being told.
